there is no real way to increase your general intelligence. eat healthy, exercise, sleep enough and avoid stress to get the most out of your brain.

You can increase both your IQ and your intelligence (very different). Will write mostly what I have seen working.

For both:

1) Read books

2) Play classical chess (long time controls). If you don't have time for this or you find it boring, you can do tactics instead (but not puzzle rush) or study endgames. Blitz or even rapid don't seem to have any positive effects (blitz might even have negative, if you play too much). Books, chess with long time controls, long tactics where you need to calculate and endgames, all make you visualize and that for the brain is like what protein is for the muscles.

3) Jogging, running and other physical exercises. They feed more air to your brain and your mind feels less cloudy, can think clearer, and concetrate easier.

4) Sleep. That to a lesser extend and it is very hard to get this right. It needs to be the proper amount at the proper hours, but it is really hard to do and haven't seen anything noticeable. What is noticeable is the drop, if you are not sleeping a lot (like less than 5 hours) for a long period of time. That can also damage your memory (it did to mine). By the way, if you sleep too much is not good, since your brain gets used to be sleepy.

5) Avoid much stress.

For IQ only:

Do IQ tests wink.png. Like with everything, you will improve by practicing them (not much though).

For intelligence:

Just think more and don’t always follow you first thought (is good for chess, but it is even better in all other life aspects). Unless the situation demands speed, for every important decisions try to calculate your first thoughts (solutions) to the end and then, think for alternatives and calculate them too. That will probably make you more intelligent than 95% of the population. I have seen many high IQ ppl thinking like retards, because they are too confident and too lazy to think.

There are other more extreme methods, like image streaming and even holding your breath under water for long intervals, but haven’t tried them. To be honest, I believe they work, since the logic behind them seems correct, but I find them too much, especially since you can just read books tongue.png.

ouch

mine is 112

SuperSeriousChild

which is not high, but that does not matter

The short answer is no

You can young man. From today onwards you must become a scholar in search of knowledge. The universe is most intelligent. Expand. To seek all that is knowledge you must be capable, capacity is always probable ergo the simple word growth - all you have to do is expand. This of course, as is all things, is not without sacrifice.

My IQ was 120 in kindergarten, now it’s 130 as a teenager. IQ can certainly improve over time.

IQ doesn’t matter if you want to be a class player. ANYONE with an IQ over 100 can get to 1200+ with practice. Also, kind of off topic, IQ affects job performance rather little. EQ is a much better tool on how successful you will be in life.

IQ does matter if you want to become world champion.

Kasparov’s IQ was 135.

In my courses to become a teacher, I took courses to the graduate school level in Cognition and Learning.

There are ways to improve your IQ at any age. When I began college I had only one relative who had gone to college and he told me, "The biggest benefit of your college education is that you will learn how to think."

He was right.

But to become a genius (140 IQ or higher) you need to have developed the ability to reason abstractly by the age of 12, which I assume you have.

Certain things switch off in the brain after age 12.  For example, children of deaf-mute parents who often ran isolated things like lighthouses in the 1800's and earlier were found to NEVER be able to learn to speak if they didn't start learning by age 12.  We can learn other languages than our native language later in life, but only because our brains had incorporated the concept of language by age 12.

Similarly, the ability to learn deep, abstract thinking disappears after age 12.

Assuming you can think abstractly, there are a number of things that increase your ability to reason, to learn, and to recall.

This includes studying logic and other tools like information theory - which helps you find answers based on what you realize you don't know about something!

Solving logic puzzles improves your thinking ability as well.

Additionally, memory tools help you recall things more quickly. Of course as you point out, there's a difference between mental power and knowledge, but quick recall gives your mental power more tools to work with.  For example, memorizing and being able to demonstrate chess tactics like The Skewer, The Dovetail Mate and dozens of other tactics in addition to the commonly known Pin and Fork allows you to more quickly see what do to with chess positions.

Another example is storing short term information in a mental house where you might put clothing concerns in your mental bedroom, food concerns in your mental kitchen, etc.  So when you try to remember what things you need to take care of in the near future, you mentally look in your bedroom, kitchen, etc. and it's easier to recall items that are organized through a structure like the mental house.

But for most people, they aren’t for that.

I'm different from most people. No wonder I can't relate to anyone.

Your IQ doesn’t seem to be high since you have poor punctuation. I estimate that your IQ is below 100.

And your IQ must be -100.   Your obviously just a sissy nerd who gets beat up because of your fat mouth and after you get done crying you go to the Internet and ball like a hungry kitten. You are a disgrace to chess.

Like I said before I know the difference between IQ and knowledge. This a classic example. The fact that I don't know proper grammar to we'll has nothing to do with my IQ rather it has to do with my knowledge. I have excelled in chess far faster than my friends and family who started at the same time or before me ( I started just over a year ago ) also taken unofficial IQ tests in mensa books ( got them at a book store. I'm not in mensa) and I have done extremely well (13/15 which the score chart said was potential was "potential mensa" for what it's worth ). I have also aced my 9th grade algebra class with ease so I don't believe that I'm dumb.

Are you sure you don't mean Karpov. I thought Kasprov has an estimated IQ of 190. If it was 135 that's really cool.

Also my chess puzzle rating is 1800-1900 on chess.com which I just started using. On lichess my rating has been 2000-2150 since about six months after starting chess.

That little argument reminded me of the actor and the smith in that chess themed movie The Seventh Seal.

However, your grammar and punctuation errors are pretty basic. They should have been corrected in elementary school.

...So should have your manners. Shame.
