I am making this thread with the idea in mind, for how to improve the current forum function of the site.
There seems to be a never ending fight between trolls and people who hate them. I asked the question about taking a good ribbing because, I think some who are labelled trolls here, are intelligent, have good senses of humor and can handle a bit of friction and fun, poked reciprocally between friends or acquaintances but, others aren't so well endowed.
I think these people deserve a place to laugh and joke, regardless of what other people think, without fear of reprisal or reprimandation as long as it is being done without malice. I realize that is subjective. It is simple science, if you make everyone hang out at the same pub, there will be more fights, than if you allow for different places of refreshment. This new place, we could call it the Spam forum. Enter at your own risk, must be 18 or older. No rules, with a few exceptions and no general moderation either.
I also think that others, who come from different walks of life, education level and intellect, deserve to be able to respectfully discuss things without having their threads hijacked, or their points being treated condescendingly.
We all have to learn somehow and less intelligent or less educated people, deserve to be able to have conversations without being treated as 2nd class Chess.com users. There is a way to chide or reprove someone, without belittling them.
I think that thread creators should be given super admin powers. This would allow for them to remove users who won't cooperate with the OP's choice to create the kind of environment they'd like.
It isn't always about whether one individual is right or wrong, or if we should have to be subject to someone. If I am in a bar, no one there has the right to make me be subject to them. I don't have to include them in my conversation with my three friends.
This is part of why petty bickering goes on here. We shouldn't have to be forced to converse with who we don't want to, or be subject to them belittling us while they have the last word, telling us how it is, just to avoid a confrontation, whether we could win or lose the argument. It is as simple as that, regardless if they are willing and or able to educate us, thereby, nullifying the need for the conversation with some others, we wanted to have.
Abuse of those powers, could easily be policed by a mod being able to take their power temporarily or permanently.
This would take away the mods' work load in my opinion, by better allowing people to behave and be treated as they prefer and better giving them the power to police themselves. This would free them up to do things like fix site problems, catch cheats and have a much needed break at times.
Also, it would be nice for a change of pace to either be removed from a thread, instead of being blocked altogether and having an annoying notification pop up, everytime a new post is made, that I can't get rid of, without making a special request from staff.
It would also be nice to be able remove someone without having to block them. I feel fascist if I have to go to such an extreme, just to get them to get the point about one small disagreement or even worse, a misunderstanding. Blocking them altogether is likely to never allow for any mending of the relationship and is likely to cause perpetuation petty revenge or toying with others.
I welcome constructive criticism and any possible improvement upon the idea. If you like it, let staff know here. I would love to see this site become more enjoyable and user friendly.
