Chess and business success

I have rarely met intelligent people in the workplace who were not experienced at the strategy and art of the game. Is there a correlation between the tactical planning, creative thinking, and attention to detail that we parlay into our games and our careers? In my opinion almost assuredly there is. I am sure this isn't a stunning breakthrough so wanted feedback if there have been books written on this topic or what your own personal experience with this might be. Thanks,

Robert

The context of a big business mind ( big business is 500 or more people who work for u or with u) and the context (The way they think or see the world) of the smaller business mind and/or employees seems to be different. In chess i do believe it helps make one a better potential leader as u need to make decision and plan ahead, sometimes quickly that can and do effect ur playing and maybe subconsciencly we do this in other area's of our lives too. But i dont know for sure as i have not read any studies on this.

Probably the best literary example of the concept connecting success in business to strategic thinking and planning would be Sun Tzu and the Art of War. That connection has also been made in Napoeon Hills' Think and Grow Rich. I know I am preaching to the choir, but if anyone who reads this, hasn't read these books or other books of this type, you need to read them! They can change your life!

I believe Chess players fall into three classes. Logical or linear thinkers who see that long term goal of a win and proceed in a straight logical line to the completion of the game. The second are the Artistic or right brained thinkers who while going for a victory take their greatest pleasure in the ever changing patterns of thrust and parry as well as the placement of pieces on the board. Which can be a thing of beauty and enjoyment. Have we ever laughed at how we see a pattern that will bring a win or even a loss and at how beautifully we had been ensnared?  The third type are that hybrid type (me) who can be logical thrust oriented or the artistic thinker. We can go for the kill and do it... well, artistically and with creative out of the box thinking. All three of these types can and do benefit from the mental training and excercise that playing chess can give. So I believe it safe to make the connection to success in business and playing our beloved game.

Whatever the type we are, I know that we all share the common trait of loving this beautifully simple yet utterly complex game!
