Chess.com computer hints

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the hints that Stockfish recommends. I am a very new chess player and I seem to play better games when I don’t use the hints. I wanted to use the computer as a learning tool but stockfish has not been able to beat itself. I tried using the hint button from the very first move as white and the hints led me right into Checkmate. Is this normal. Another chess game l had before I joined Chess.com would teach me how to win and even when I was in a bind the computer showed me the right moves to win, most always.

I am not sure we can blame Stockfish. We don't know what program is running on the play versus computer.

Whatever program is running is severely handicapped by the need to come up immediately with a suggestion and it doesn't appear to have an opening book or access to endgame tablebases.

Limiting computing time results in move suggestions without the time to even look several ply deep, with predictable results.

Furthermore, the levels themselves provide some sort of random blunder and bad move handicap.  It is not clear that asking for a hint gives access to some special unhandicapped mode.

Perhaps it is time to start playing games without hints, against real people.

Can anyone tell me when I press the hint button, what engine is helping? I don’t know if it’s Maximum (3200), or some other.
