It's appropriate to resign when the opponent wants to. I agree that abandoning a game is real crappy behaviour, and inappropriate.

Unfortunately, even if one could write such an article, one that would meet general consensus, the people who would need it the most probably wouldn't bother themselves to read it. . . or they'd abandon it halfway through.
Could someone please post an article on appropriate etiquette in chess? For instance, it would be helpful for many members to learn when it is appropriate to resign and to learn that abandoning a game when losing is inappropriate behavior.
