Here's the solution. http://startuplivingchina.com/best-vpn-for-china/
and what Mr. Ger suggested above.
When I was in China visiting my grandparents, I tried to access Chess without VPN and it works, well kind of cuz it feels slower than a slowest processor, so I used a free working VPN for faster access.
You can test if you can access specific websites in China with this website, I used it before going to China, making sure I have contact outside world legally, and it turns out I need NordVPN, which is the only legal VPN in China.

Chess.com works in China. What's this misinformation.
it probably isn't blocked anymore.
Original post was in 2014.
According to this website http://www.blockedinchina.net/?siteurl=www.chess.com, chess.com is blocked in China. I am going to work in Beijing for 5 months, and it would be a shame if I cannot access this site. Does anyone know whether there is a way to access chess.com. Anyone here from China?
