like the health care plan that Obama was talking about that has no provisions for allowing medical care to illegals but Obama didn't mention that the plan also has ZERO enforcement on this issue.
Chess.com Scholarship Program - Your Thoughts?

great idea.!! those who receive the sholarship should be asked to "pass it on" and contribute to the fund when and if they are able....

Not knocking it, all your hearts are in the right place.
But I'd rather people donate to something a bit more substantial (Red Cross, World Famine etc) than to have people be able to play chess. If they are able to access the internet then they are still far better off than an awful lot of people around the world.
Naturally

Yeah, the non-native language thing is really tough; I'm not sure how to get around it, though.
Rating on passion rather than grammar (obviously)? Solicit volunteers to evaluate essays in their native language?
It's probably already a good sign of real interest if a non-native speaker makes the effort, too. It would be shame to have any potential scholarship be too English-centric, though.
Naturalmente

I think that's a nice idea! Not sure i can afford to donate just yet though, but might do in the near future.

I think it might be a better idea for chess.com to organize unranked kids tournaments or free clinics either at schools or maybe public libraries, thus getting kids interested more in playing chess, which would eventually be beneficial to chess.com as more kids would want to play here, and maybe even parents. They have an opportunity to become the premier chess organization if they do this. Adults already play chess, it's the kids who we have to get interested in the game.
The USCF gives free memberships to students who can have a school official sign that they are in need of financial aid. They require at least one tournament competition.
that's true but the UCSF will also admit that they have ZERO enforcement on this requirement.
