concern for my opponent

To all the chess players out there - my current opponent in a tournament, Dave Lockett (aka Sprocky) is from Christchurch, New Zealand.  As you probably know by now, this beautiful city was just devastated by an earthquake.  I have no news from him.

kind regards, Henry Cantrell

I dare say that he's fine and that playing tournament chess is probably the last thing on his mind, especially as most of the city is without electricity. Nice of you to be concerned about your opponent though.

It might be a thoughtful gesture to switch off

Auto-Win on Time:

Automatically claim victory when time runs out!
Tournament games always win on time automatically.

at MY HOME -> Online Chess -> Settings.

(This can only be applied to ALL of your games or NONE.   )

Thanks for the tip on the autowin feature.  I sent an email to the administrators to see if they could suspend the game.  I did not know I had the capability to do it.  I agree that chess is the last thing on Dave's mind right now.  Just hope he and his family are making out ok.  I've been through very bad hurricanes but never an earthquake.

Courtesy of chess.com, we probably all now know someone in the various troublespots around the world.

Thanks for all the responses.  FYI, I just heard from Dave.  He is ok but said they are going through hell right now.  Chess.com will reactivate the game (it expired on time despite autowin feature - that does not work for tourney games).  The game means nothing.  Glad he made it through.  I've been through hurricanes but at least with them we get a warning.
