Difficulties with online games

I'm new here, although I have enjoyed chess for a long time.  However, I have found some difficulties with online games.  In many instances, opponents seem non-responsive and may take the full three days to respond.  Sometimes, they go on "vacation".  This is all good and I am not complaining.  It's great to play correspondence chess and have lots of time to make moves.  But I've realized there are ways to get "faster" online games.  Now I check my opponents before I accept them.  I have found that the players that take a long time may have as many as 20 games going and may owe moves in most of them.  I realize now that they will not be all that responsive.

So for those that want faster games, I recommend checking first and only accepting opponents that don't have too much on their plate.

On the other hand, some of those engaged in too many games seem easier to beat as their focus is spread too wide.  So playing them may be a good way to raise your rating, as long as you are patient and can wait.

20 is a fairly low number of games! If you are only challenging people below that than you won't find many people.

Well, just create your own seeks that have a 1 day move timer. That's what I do. As far as playing 20 games at once, my quality drops at that point. I have stepped back to playing 1 game as a greeter and 1-3 games for myself for a MAX of 4 running at once.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. In Online chess, responding within the full three days is in accordance with the conditions and is not being non-responsive. You say you are not complaining, but it seems you actually are. Perhaps Live or Blitz would be more suitable for you. Good luck!

Yes Ruby, you are correct.  I'm not complaining though.  What I'm saying is that there may be ways to get faster games and still work in the three day limit.  It just gets slower when EVERY move takes three days and then vacations get taken.

When creating an open seek, in Advanced Options, set the Player Move Speed to something other than All Players.

Possibly the slowest players on the site, caustico and ghostofmaroczy, currently playing less than 20 games, will not see your seek.

When entering tournaments ensure the tournament director has set the Player Move Speed.
