disadvantage?

is black always reactive? it seems White has a serious advantage using the kings pawn opening. blacks queen is left wide open. now I'm a silver league player and I know that chess is infinitely technical. I'm just curious what the player base has to think. is white an advantage? is playing black a disadvantage? I'm fixing to fall asleep it's 5 a.m and I've been playing the A.i at 3200 rating for a while , so I'm going to apologize early because I won't be able to respond to your comment until I wake up. id love for someone to explain what it really means to play as white and then what it means to play as black. also what is your preference and why ? last question for you. Pawn first or knight ? After dozens of games I noticed the A.I (as white) would at random open with a knight , I'm truly trying to uncover the secrets of making the right choice. with love , Cody.

++ Chess is a draw, but the path to the draw is wider for white and narrower for black.

1 e4 e5 is great, 2 Nf3 Nf6 is still great, but 3 Nxe5 Nxe4? is bad: 4 Qe2 Qe7 5 Qxe4 d6 6 d4 loses a pawn, so 3...d6 is imperative.
1 d4 d5 is great, but 2 c4 c5? is bad: 3 cxd5 cxd4 4 Qxd4 loses a pawn, so 2...e6, or 2...c6, or 2...dxc4 is imperative.

Some players prefer the initiative and tactical nature of playing White, while others enjoy the challenge of equalizing as Black and outmaneuvering the opponent.
