DIY electronic chessboard connected to chess.com

At the start of this year I started working on a DIY chessboard to play on chess.com and it is finally ready.

I noticed a lot of resources are available to create the hardware but no resources are available to create the software. I have created the project such that anyone can connect their own hardware to chess.com in a few simple steps. There is extensive documentation available to use the code including examples to connect your hardware and more detailed information if you want to implement new features. The code can be found here and the documentation can be found here

It's actually risky to do that. Some of the automated systems may flag it as a bot making moves.

Are you sure about that. I did some research in advance, it is not against the terms and conditions and there are several tools (mainly keyboard plugin) which do the same thing. Next to this chess.com even has a build in option to hook up dgt chessboards (which is basically the same but without LED to indicate moves and way more expensive). https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/dgt-play-is-enabled-in-chess-com-beta

Do it yourself chessboard. A home made electronic chessboard which detects and highlight moves.

A suggestion is to make the board play opponent's moves using magnets. The piece's diameter will have to be less than half of the side of a square. That way it wont bump into other pieces.

Nice project BTW!

I considered that but the hardware complexity will be a lot higher and this was already really hard. The pieces are detecting using magnets and they would go wild if you use a strong electro magnet. The squares would also need to be a lot bigger to avoid sticking together. Lastly the real problems are that magnets cause noise and small software errors and sensing errors because they corrupt messages. Dragging a magnet it is possible but you would need a completely different (and really expensive design).
