Feature Request: Flag games that "Won or lost on time", and "rating filter"

Sort:

As I peruse my past games, I can't help but to really want a flag or icon next to the game indicating that I won it due to time running out.  I haven't lost any that way, but I would want it for that as well.

it would also be nice to know what my rating would be without those games..  perhaps there could be some way to filter out some games to see what my rating would be without them!

chess.com is still relatively new and theyre still adding new stuff all the time, so maybe thatll happen who knows (besides erik)

This is a fantastic idea.

you don't keep scoresheets with pen and paper???? Bad habit, unnecessary dependence on technology.

erik

a win is a win is a win. Just like in OTB.

I would respectfully disagree; at least when it comes to rated games.  Players' ratings lowered or raised based on games lost or won by somebody timing out affect the rating by a factor other than the player's respective skills on the board.  To the degree that that happens, it diminishes the value of ratings to indicate a player's true skill level.  A player who continually loses based on timeouts will tend to have a rating that is lower that that player's true skill level; just as a player who continually wins by timeouts will have a rating that tends to be artificially high.

In my case, I have won some games against players who are much better than me, and who were winning the game on the board.  I am pretty sure I would have lost those games, but for the fact that they timed out.  (And these were tournament games, where the option of turning off the automatic win feature is evidently not available.  Not that that is a bad thing; so tournaments can then progress.)

I would certainly like to be able to not count 'greeter' games in my win-draw-lose stats.  Rated games tend to even out in terms of grades, but having lots of new players timing out in unrated games after 2 or 3 moves means I can't check to see if my win percentage is really going up or not since they are skewing the results.  I have considered stopping doing these 'greeter' games because of this.

All that said, it doesn't make that much difference to me and if I was that bothered I could make my own database and ignore them.  But I am guessing it wouldnt be too difficult to get a win-draw-lose percentage only for rated games?

i disagree. time management is a significant part of OTB since one has a limited time of thinking, but in CC it's a totally different thing.

so i think the original idea of rating filters is really a brilliant one.

the punishment for timeouts here is that you can't play in tournaments if you have timeouts more than 10% of games (like myself and i find it really annoying, but i have only myself to blame...)

- Actually, the timeout percentage is adjustable; at least for premium member tournament directors.  A friend of mine had a timeout percentage that was above 10%; so I adjusted the limit in one of my tournaments so he could register for it.

People time out for different reasons.  Some may just not feel like playing anymore, or just want to stay away for a while.  Others may have other things going on in their lives which keeps them away.  I can understand if people have a family emergency, job obligations, etc.; and see those as valid and excusable reasons why they time out.  Hey, life happens!  Laughing

I must say, I *do* like the new feature that allows you to choose what percentage of timeouts you require in a future opponent.  That removes some of the fire from this requested feature..
