Frequency of Cheaters

Anyone have any idea what the frequency of cheaters is on this site? I've been hovering around the 1100 mark for several weeks now, and it feels like every other game is just players who are easily scoring 85+% accuracy even across 30+ moves. What is the likelihood of encountering that many players as an 1100 who are so accurate?

Accuracy is fake. It's not "accuracy" it's a marketing gimmick. It's normal for beginners to occasionally play games with "accuracy" over 90% and it's normal for GMs to regularly play games with "accuracy" below 90%.

By the way the overall frequency of cheaters, last time I looked, was between 1 in 200 and 1 in 500.

Where did you look for that statistic?

You can look through some of these:

https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-month-in-review-june-2021

Divide accounts closed for fair play by accounts reviewed. Do it for a few months and you get that stat.

According to the data in that article, it would be 1 in 500 accounts that are closed for FairPlay. That's assuming they catch every single cheater, though. There have been games in the past where I've played against people that I know were cheating (playing top engine moves across 99% of all moves across multiple games) that are still up and running after many months and hundreds, if not thousands, of games. I've reported them multiple times, but they're still going. I suspect the website--whether it's a bot or an actual human doing the reviewing--only catches a small fraction of people who are actually cheating.

What kind of a cheater would score 85% against an 1100 player? A guy who cheats with a 50-year-old computer?

Someone who plays all engine moves will be banned easily. People often overexaggerate what their opponents are doing.

But sure, it's better for a business to error on the side of allowing cheaters vs banning honest users, so it's fair to assume the actual frequency of cheaters is a little higher.

A more meaningful stat would be to break it up by rating and time control. High rated 10 minute games might have the highest frequency of cheating, while low rated 10 minute games might have the highest raw number of cheaters.

This guy got over 85% against you.

He cheated so hard that he forced you to not take his queen for free on move 18 lol

When I saw the title of this topic I honestly thought it was about literally the frequency. Meaning like what radio or communication band they use in their earpiece during a tournament or something.

Is it possible to earn money by playing chess on this site?

There are some events that win money, yeah.

But they check all the games for cheating, you play with multiple webcams watching you, and have your task manager open... stuff like that.

I lost to a guy recently who had a 99.7 accuracy. I looked through his games and about half of them were above 98% accuracy. I strongly suspect cheating....especially considering that when he lost, his accuracy was often below 60.
