245?
Guess the elo of this savage checkmate

I feel like it's very difficult to tell with such a short game. Finding the pin that enables knight mate was nice, but there are some oddities, like black didn't go for the queen trade, white hangs a pawn for no reason, random one-move attack on the bishop. Guess my instinct is kinda 1000ish (though Im horrible at guessing elo) but it could be lower or higher too.

@wt2chrome I didn't go for the Queen trade because I thought I might be able to force a mate as I had more active pieces & a check

That position is essentially equal so knowing black thinks that way does not make my guess higher haha. That being said, indeed 245 was not what I was expecting. I see you are 800 rapid. I'm not sure how blitz works sub-800 but I'd imagine you are underrated in blitz to have like 600pt difference between rapid and blitz, no?

@wt2chrome There can be a 1000 point swing between two decent players so we are all underrated and overrated, depending on the time format, and complexities of the game.

1000 pt swings!!? What on earth can you please explain what you mean !??

@wt2chrome Often people play 500 points above/below their level, so if those 2 players meet then a big swing can take place.
I've got about 20 wins against players rated 1400+ in various formats Excellent players can sometimes get caught out by lucky schmucks like me as they don't know all the theory

Hmm, I don't think I would agree with you there. I looked up your rapid stats, and you have 219 games against 1400+ rated players and your score is 19.5/219. Of these, there is 1 game against a cheater, 2 games won that ended in 0 or 1 moves, 2 games won by timeout because your opponent went afk in a winning position, and 2 games won by abandonment in equal or losing positions. Two of your draws are in equal or losing positions and look like your opponent was busy or something and hence the draw. Subtracting out those games, you have like 11.5/210, like 5.4% win rate against 1400+ rated players. (Sorry, I often like to analyze people's stats like this haha, hope you don't mind). That's only a little higher than predicted by the elo system. I don't think people just randomly play 500 pts below their true level all too frequently. Of course it happens sometimes but not as often as you are suggesting. And I don't know about playing 500 points above your true level. I don't think I have ever played at like anything like 2000+ level as much as I wish I could lol.

It's a clueless 250 who lives by the philosophy; Checkmate or die!

@wt2chrome 1400's+ obviously play to their level more often than not, but the average Chess game is so complex that top players play below their level. Clearly I can't beat my own rating range at will, but if I learned a few openings and only played 30 minute games, I'd have a few more wins.
This was a 3 minute blitz game
