Having chess.com app open on multiple devices at the same time

I've found that I can do certain things better on certain devices. For example, I have apps for chess.com on my phone and tablet and I use the website as well. But sending a message to someone is not so easy on my tablet but I can do it on the website easier. But that's not necessarily my issue.

I've tried to avoid opening up the website while I'm playing on my tablet (my favorite medium to use while playing) because I worry that it might alert certain measures that I might be cheating. But just now, I started to play against someone I've had a few games against and I was curious as to what our record is. I just wanted to check the stats while not having to go away from my game on the tablet. It is very convenient to be able to check on the website while a game is going on in my phone or tablet.

What I want to know is this: Is that allowed or will it possibly trigger some kind of mechanism that I might be cheating? I'm not cheating, of course, but I'm worried that having two accounts open at the same time might seem suspicious. Again, I'm only doing that out of convenience.

You can't have two Live connections open at once; the second one will cause the first one to close.

I don't know if multiple concurrent device connections are tracked in other cases or not.

Really isn't much different than having multiple tabs open to the site (such as a Live connection, forum tabs and groups for example). Now, if you are on Live and the Opening and/or Game Explorers at the same time,  that may be a different story.

I'll just keep it safe then and only have one device on at a time.

All of a sudden, I keep getting a Fair Play warning. When I start a game, an option comes on warning me to play fair. I read the warning, then, when I click to play the game, I've found that I've aborted. I have no idea what's going on. I'm not a cheater. I play fair. I play black every time it's chosen for me randomly. I never let the time run down just to be spiteful. (Last night, I did have trouble hitting resign on a lost bullet game because I couldn't find it in the confusing setup of the site.) So I have no idea why this is happening. It's very disconcerting and even offensive. I've paid for the premium service. I'm serious about playing here and am upset that I'm accused of something of which I'm innocent.

You getting that warning on the app or via the website? I see you have one abandoned game today but I'm wondering if the app is caching that warning and showing it to you each game?

AntonioVivaldiJr

I'm getting it on the app on my tablet. Any abandonment was certainly unintentional and likely due to a disconnection (or some other reason). As I've said, I always play fair and am honest on here.

Thanks for looking into this, Martin.

By the way, I won't play with more than one app or website open, however I do find it convenient to play on whatever is handy at any time. For example, now, I'm typing this on the website and see two correspondence games are ready, and so I'll possibly make moves on this site. If I'm in town or on the train, I'll play on my cell phone, as it has connectivity. HOwever, if my tablet has wifi connection, I will play on that. I certainly hope this is not causing this prolbem (although I see no reason why it should).

Two devices shouldn't cause it.  And one abandonment shouldn't cause it more that after that one time (and it most likely was a disconnect that caused it as you didn't make any moves).  That's why I'm wondering if it may be a caching issue.

You might force stop the app and reload to see if it goes away.

Actually, it appears on my phone as well and not just on my tablet.

Martin_Stahl

Weird.

So what can I do? So far, it's just an annoying box that comes up, but how long before I actually have my account restricted?

AntonioVivaldiJr

It seems to be back to normal anyway. Hope this won't happen again. Annoying glitch.

If you closed an account you can write a ticket to support to get it opened.

Once opened you would need to close the current one.
