How do I block players from a particular country?

When I am matchmaking for online games, I want to exclude all players based on their country flag, and it is a country that I will not name and leave that as an exercise for the reader's imagination. If you are a chess.com moderator or administrator and reading this, if you can infer what country I'm talking about based on context alone, then you can't disagree with me or call it discrimination since the information is strictly factual, and therefore you have no grounds to remove this post.

I want to filter out matchmaking like this, because the individuals from this specific country are disproportionately rude and bad mannered compared to players from other countries. No, I am not being racist or nationalist. In fact, I have played many very fun games and made several friends from this country as well. Some of the most enjoyable games I've ever had are from these players. However, in my experience, the overwhelming majority of these people who I have been stuck playing with in the triple digits of elo consistently taunt me in chat, stall or run the clock down instead of resigning, offer draws in hopelessly lost positions, and engage in disrespectful moves such as unnecessarily promoting pawns after I have run out of material. I report every single one of them for their behavior, but it does nothing to stop more of them from continuing to ruin my love for chess.

Yes, I am fully aware that there are players from every country who are like this. No, I am not suggesting that all players from this one country are inherently rude and bad mannered. I am simply expressing my discontent with matches played against people bearing this one country's flag, and that on the whole, they have forced me to play miserably unenjoyable games that ruin the experience. Anyone can simply abort a game, and nobody should be forced to play a game of chess against someone they don't like, which means that in theory, one could simply abort games based on a country flag. However, this is inefficient and also a waste of time, since new matches aren't guaranteed to matchmake someone from a different country instead. It doesn't help that this country also has a very high population density, and chess is very popular there. What I'm asking for is a simple option to blacklist a country so that I can on average play against different people who are generally more honorable and humble opponents.

Thanks for reading. I think a feature like country blacklisting would be appropriate and would improve the experience for many players around the globe.

You can’t… I don’t think… unless you just block them one by one

OP: you gotta get out of the 700s.

Even the 800s can be a bit of a sewer. But once you're in 900-1100, there's very little of that grade school behavior. Especially the emoji "haha" spam from a sore about to be winner. Though it is amusing when they blunder next move and kill their win.

I personally don't see the problem with unnecessarily promoting pawns. They might just want that achievement for playing a game that lasted 100 moves without risking a stalemate

this is why you should utilize the custom match
its insanely useful

While your intention may not be discriminatory, allowing players to blacklist specific countries could lead to stereotyping and unfair treatment of individuals based solely on their nationality.

I can understand your problem. I do not want to play against rude and bad behaving players.

There ae several things you can do. When you create a game you should make the rating interval +300 to +500 to get rid of the worst kids. You can also aktivate Premium only button to reach serious players. You can also try challenging nice players you already have met. And if you stiĺ get a game with from India you can mute the chat temporaily.

yes i agree with you

I just banned the chat forever in settings and that removed 90% of idiots from my radar. The only thing they can do now is to stall the game, no way to solve that other than play 5 minutes blitz or less (not sure reporting them does anything). I'd ban at least 5 countries if I had a chance though wink Even 1400+ ELO is not a guarantee in some places of the world, they seem stuck in their 10 y.o. mental age, that's sad.

its just online chess though so i dont think reacting to any rude person from any country is even worth it unless you want to troll them too lol
i usually found it funny
