thanks for the tip

lucas chess is a great program, but i haven't figured out how to switch sides and play as the other player
===========================================

i could never figure out lucas chess; i loaded chessx, and it was just as esoteric.  although, i've figured out that you don't "switch sides", the options are to program whose turn it is, then 'play engine', or use the 'analyze' button, and play your own game

if you want to view games that you have played in the past do this:

when you finish the game go to analysis.

click download (see picture)

that means that you have saved the game on your pc. (Download is highlighted with the red circle)

So when you want to view this game again, after a few days then go to:

1. Click on "Learn" (Left tab on chess.com platform)

2. Click on "Analysis" (the pop up when you click on "Learn"

3. then go to the low right corner of the platform and click on the "+" symbol (plus symbol)

4. it will ask you to i) "Set up" ii) load "FEN" iii) load "PGN"  choose load PGN and you will see a text saying "paste one or more PGNs"

5. Open you PGN file that you have downloaded and saved on your pc. You can open the PGN file with Notepad. when you open the pgn file in the Notepad, select everything (Ctrl + A) and then copy (Ctrl + c) and then paste (Ctrl + V) on the "paste one or more PGNs" row.

6. Click on load and your game is ready to view happy.png

I use this sites:

I paste my pgn into the Game Editor, but it does not go through the moves. Anyone have a basic guide to using pgns? I'm baffled.

I'm guessing that the PGN files are a way of downloading and saving a record of individual games. What does PGN stand for, and what software do I need to view them?
