Good thing this question isn't asked constantly on the forums. Try a 'search' next time.

Yikes, 2000 on "hard" ... Scarblac and BigMac, how do you account for your estimate (~1400)?
I get that because I'm +- 2000 slow, am relatively much less at blitz, and I can beat it on hard without thinking much.
EDIT: Scrap that. Just tried it out and lost pretty hard. Perhaps I'm confused. 2000 is quite possible. It's also possible that I'm even worse at blitz than I think.

You are probably much better off getting Fritz and just dumbing it down so that it plays at whatever level you like :). Of course, Fritz isn't exactly cheap, but in my opinion it really is the best software out there.
Chessmaster is another wonderful program with infinite playing levels, from completely useles to 2500+, and training features as well. It can be found in most software stores for ten bucks :).

Skwerly, I do have Fritz (11), but apart from a blunder setting, how do I get it to play at a particular level? (e.g. 1200)

Here are the estimates that we have of the Computer's levels:
Easy - 1200
Medium - 1500
Hard- 2000
Are these chess.com ratings?

It happens, but you need a large pool of games to be sure. It's easy to be careless, drop some material, and lose. But play steadily and carefully and I'm sure you'll destroy it. I play against it regularly, and I'm pretty sure it's like 1500-1700 FIDE on "hard" setting. chess.com should set up a secret account for the computer and let it compete in random tournaments. That way we'll know for sure how strong it is, at least in terms of chess.com ratings.
Does anyone have an estimate of how strong (e.g. Elo rating) the Little Chess Partner is on Easy, Medium, and Hard respectively?
