How do I enable this stealth setting?
I don't think this "online 13 hours ago" should be allowed to lie.

Some people here have some kind of stealth setting enabled, like this guy @P-Cramer, who has made at least 3 turns in the last 3 hours.
Yet it says that he has not been online for 13 hours, which is patently untrue about whomever is playing chess out of his account.
I understand that some people want to be all stealth online, but I don't think the system should be allowed to lie for them.
The system should say - this person doesn't want you to know when they were last online, or words to that effect, so that we can prioritize our daily games for who is actually here.
If you are getting right into an end game that you have been really analyzing, that doesn't seem too much to ask.
Possibly related to the difference between the app and an actual website login.

Aha. I had never considered that. Can an app not have that kind of accuracy?
It is just a guess on my part. It would take some testing or a staff member familiar with the apps and the site code for a definitive answer.

I understand the temptation, but don't invent psych-out conspiracies to worry about. They're probably just the result of technical and design glitches rather than anyone's intention. But even if they weren't they're a distraction. Worry about the pieces on the board. Psychological warefare is irrelevant if you play the best moves you can.

yes it's nothing paranoid it's just frustrating when you assume someone isn't here and ignore a game that you have been analyzing hard, and when you finally have a turn it becomes apparent that they have been here all along.

interesting perspective though tlay am sure there is something in what you say for everyone xD
i have to encourage myself and programs I use to let me to be allowed to focus hard as i have some kind of ADHD type thing so flitting off is what I would normally do... anything that helps me to concentrate on the same game for longer is good for me, and possibly for others.

It's a weird dance we do -- this intricate interaction with another person, where we never exchange words but we know we're both running through the same ideas. Or assume we must be or guess we must be, without ever being able to quite know for sure. So in a sense, the other person's always there phantasmatically, even when they're not. They have to be there, in our minds, making the best possible reply, any time we think about ideas. And at the same time the opposite has to be true -- we always have to do this completely alone -- not knowing where our opponent is, what they're thinking, whether they're contemplating a pawn sacrifice or what they want to eat for breakfast.
Being able to make sense of those two contradictory truths -- or at least manage to function in the face of them -- is the great challenge, the great frustration, and the great pleasure of playing chess.

To my knowledge, javascript in forum never autorefresh (update), but livechess java script is constantly updating with the server.
Someone in 13 hours ago data came from ( login time on forum) and you seeing him in livechess 3 hours ago can happen.

yes, online chess, at any rate : )

Yeah, but, take away the question of knowing whether they're phyiscally there, and it's still true for over-the-board games. It's fundamental to the game of chess, in any form, that you're always both intimately interacting with and strictly not interacting with your opponent.

Yes, I had perceived that from within your earlier comment.
OTB = you could think they are just sitting there calculating, but they could have been having a non-motor onset seizure for a few minutes, or worse still - be fighting to regain control of their bowel xD
I would prefer, for any program, accuracy if possible. However If someone I am playing is consulting a ouija board between turns trying to channel Bobby Fischer, perhaps they can genuinely claim to not be online.

he probably left his tab open for 13 hours

I have the opposite problem.
I am constantly being pinged for someone else logging on in my name. "Another logon has been detected". Would whoever is doing that please cease!

like about 1 year ago, there was a glitch that the last online was not accurate at all. like for example, when you just logged of it will say online 2 hrs ago or something like that. really annoying but glad they fixed that
