i don't think that you should feel guilty for a high rating and being in the top 4% is excellent. it is just showing how good you play chess
I'm Overrated

A player who learns to play well after joining the site could be under 50% wins. The early losses have less and less effect on your rating as you play more games.

Your winning percentage is as well skewed by the high percentage of draws you accept. Playing some out may result in more wins than losses.

I wouldn't worry about it -- so is Coldplay.
I'm in the same boat, worse even, than you. I'm definitely overrated, and have an even lower average opponent rating than you. I wouldn't feel too bad about it -- maybe strive to play higher rated opponents. Your rating will find it's correct equilibrium point and you'll likely improve your game in the process.
I learned this game only a few years ago in my late 30's and became addicted. I bought chess books and taught myself without really playing any stiff competition. Because I never owned a computer ( and still don't today ) and without anyone worthwhile to play, gave up the game for a year. Last April I purchased an iPhone and found this site. I have played approx 350 games and my winning % is under 50 %, yet I am in the top 4%. The question is, should I feel guilty aquiring such a rating in only 11 months of playing real competition or should I have regrets for not starting earlier in my life and maybe achieving greatness. Also, does anyone rated 2000+ have a win % under 50 %. Just curious, cause I think it's rare.
