Hahaha... Erik 1 - Apple 0

@polydiatonic: Come on man... I know you're frustrated, but posting comments to the effect of "please help" 3 times in 2 hrs after posting? Do you think that someone saw your post, had an answer but decided not to help you, and then would see your new post and decide to help? And then you're going to be condescending to the guy who makes chess.com possible? Please... learn some manners.

I think it's safe to say that Erik and I have a positive relationship, having been corresponding with him on and off for maybe a couple of years.  The point of my making more posts asking "please help" is to nudge the thread up the "most recent posts" window so that people will notice it; a technique that is usually effective and as far as I can see a completely rational and ethical way of encouraging participation.

The only down side to this way of "nudging" a thread is that occasionally some idiot will decide to make a completely off topic troll-like posting that has no significance and makes no meaningful contribution other than to serve as a warning to others to take that persons posts less seriously.  If the shoe is tight, try losening the laces.  They may be pulled a little tight.

Erik, are there ANY fixes in the works for these 2 significant problems for ipad users?  I'm really counting on you here.

The "fixes" are that they are working on making live chess playable on the app itself. Chess.com can't do anything about the problems your having. The constant refresh is there because it is like a live stream of sorts and each move needs to be processed and brings it to a "new page". The sound is a flash thing and Apple products don't support flash.

Live chess already works in the ipad app, but it works better just using the safari browser in ipad.  Erik did already mention that the sound problem is due to flash, but it seems that there's got to be a way of fixing that, doesn't it? The constant "refresh"/live stream that you mention may well be the issue, but if that's the case why does this problem not exist in all browsers?

we are making a native app - almost done!

That great, but will these issues be addressed in the native app?  I know you're just having a little fun with the "real browser" snark, but with bazillions of ipads/itouchs/iphones out there I know that you'd being making a lot of us very happy by addressing these issues...feel the love from this loyal paying member :)

Their "downfall" is amusing to discuss, given that they are the #2 company in the US, by market cap.

Apple's downfall may be overstating it a little but, but in the mobile and tablet markets I suspect you may find it surprisingly prescient.

Openness is the other area Apple falls down as compared to Android.

We're OK to discuss RIM's downfall though, right?

ozzie_c_cobblepot

Yes, we can discuss it, but it's not nearly as fun to discuss as the rise again of WebOS.

Apple in real trouble. Yeah right...their stock was at about $205 a share a year ago. Anyone care to guess what it is now?
polydiatonic
I only know this because I bought 10 shares @$205 about a year ago. Today "we" closed at about $375.00. !!! Quick, sell, sell, sell!!!
ozzie_c_cobblepot
Exactly. If I had to buy into one company for 20 years without possibility of selling until then, Apple might not be that company. But right now it is king.

Cry_Wolf

lol ok bro. I guess you're on all the freakin' time. I'm sure you and Erik have a great relationship since you're such an a-hole to him and everyone else in this thread. Nice maturity, btw ;)

wow, irrelevant much?  You seem to have too much time on your hands.  Here's an idea, why not try playing some chess while you're  here.  I am actually interested in seeing what if anything may be done about the issue at hand.  So, I'll be checking in to see what people are saying.  It's called "communicating".  You ought to try it sometime.

Cry_Wolf

lol well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black :)

polydiatonic

Buh-bye...

ozzie_c_cobblepot
Nooooooooooooooooo! You blocked him, didn't you?
polydiatonic

It was getting rediculous.  Do you think I over reacted?  I'm really not interested in be called an "a-hole" in my own thread where I'm trying to generate interest in solving a problem.
