Is the computer a better person?

I have being playing for months on the website.

I have found lost of different kinds of people playing agaings me.

Some of the people are nice and polite, this is the few. Some of the people is just the regular player. And some of the people is rude, unconsiderate, mean and just offencive (latly have found more of this than the other 2 kinds).

Some few months ago I decided to automatly block chat, becouse it was pretty bad to see too much profanity and insults on the chat text. To mention some incidents:

I acepted a 10 minutes game, after the first 5 moves on the game, I sit to see a person times out, spending all his/her 10 minutes to do nothing but chat spam.

In other ocation I played a game that the other player seams to believe i was reay lost. I didn't see that so I need to see how. Trough the rest of the game this person was telling me how stupid americans are. I am imigrant from south america, my flag shows USA becouse it is where I live, happy to be here. Finally this person won the game. Still if I think I have not loss the game I want to keep on playing until i see why.

On the other side, some really few times the other person says something nice.

Most of the people are like me and says nothing.

As I say latly I found people being abusive and profane on the chat, I decided to play with the chat block.

Then it comes other situations. People letting the time to run when they have ready loss the game. People who acepts my challenge to a game and then let it abort... so on and go on.

I am finding more enjoybable to play the computer, actually.

Whaever happen to 2 people playing a friendly game whit out trolling or cursing or being a jerk becouse looses the game....

I prefer to play with another person. And I find disapointing that a computer is better quality person than some real people.

I would like to play chess online with other people. And we behaving in a mature and friendly way. Is that to much to ask for?

The OP plays stupid when he isn't.

He lists a compendium of ersatz provocative questions, largely in the hopes of getting lots of responses.  So he can snicker like the characters on the Beavis and Butthead show.  Now no longer on TV.

Get a life, Beavis.  Or perhaps just watch re-runs of the Borat movie.

Is that too much to ask?

Compedium of questions?.... I just cheked my post and there is only one question mark. and the question is like 7 words long and you repeated the same question back to me, in a short version of 6 words. You call that compendium of questions?

All I am doing is comparing the behavor of a computer with the behavor of human players. And pointing out that in some cases the computer is "a better person" than some of the people.

The computer doesn't sit on the clock, or don't troll on the chat, or don't do other stuff that some people does.

I also mention that I want to play humans not computers, if those humans where in average more mature.

But what do you know about mature stuff if your cultural references come from MTV?

If I wanted lots of responses I could have start a chain message, on the lines of:

"how old you where when you learned chess and at what age are you planing to retire from the board?"

But I am not doing that. Becouse I don't care at what age people started playing, And I don't care to have a "popular" posts with lost of responses.

So kid; Take your "psychology kit" to other place and play to be the Freud with someone else.

Au revoir.

And we both know who is "the kid" in this thread.

What goes around comes around.

Yes, we know, that kid is you. (See how correct my guess is?)

For the main thread, I say that Chess.com has tried a lot to take care of such members who stall/spam the chats.

  • For the spamming case, it has provided a Block Chat option ready to use, which you are using, and that's good.
  • For the stalling case, there is a Fair Play Policy (FPP) that flags these people and restricts their gameplay freedom if excessively done. Well, it is really hard to watch each and every person's game and flag them immediately. So I think this idea is not bad.

Hope this helped.

There is a game kids play where they repeat back to an adult what the adult says.

You are playing to repeat back to me what I say.

Therefore. You are the kid.

"What goes around comes around." Rly?

Another MTV reference? you have not shame, after I pointed out that your cultural references come from MTV you are sopouse to come with something different, Instead you come with a Justin Timberlake song...

You need to show some improvement, your post is not aceptable.

Sorry.  Your sense of history in these threads is pathetic.  Have a nice day.

I wonder how efective the FPP really is. I mean, if there is some sort of stats that show the before and the after. Becouse on my experience, before the FPP people just cliket on the abort option rigth away. The after FPP is people waiting 10 seconds so the computer aborts the game. In my playing, I see no real difference in the rate of aborts before and after the FPP. The only difference, for me, is that I have to wait longer for the game to get aborted.

Another of my perceptions is that people refuses to play, this is let the computer abort the game, to me becouse i have chat bloket. This is people is aborting more games to me, now, than they did before.

I think this have to do with some sort of mentality: "If I am not good enougth for chat with you, then you are not enougth for play with me" kinda deal.

I have notice the rate of aborted games to me have substancially increased since I decided to automatically block the chat.

Still I am not satisfy with bloking the chat, Somehow I still want that human contact, and as I say there is some nice people out there, few of them.

And I am going back to the difference on the experience of playing a human and playing a machine. Whit out the chat there is not really that much difference, from the experience point of view. So the trick is to get to play a person and there to be some level of "gentlemanship" on the comunication.
