I just wanted to move both white and black pieces around on a practice board to try various strategies.

Is there such a feature on Chess.com?

jimpyramid

not that i know of but you can do it on a chess board dont know if that would teach you anything.

Boswell99

Well, say I've seen a new opening on YouTube, and I want to practice it, then it would be useful to have a practice board. I don't yet know all the coordinates of the squares, so my own board is rather slow to use.

jimpyramid

dont know if there is such a thing on chess.com just playing against the computer is all ive seen.

Boswell99

Maybe somewhere on the internet? It would help to have an 'intelligent' board, which at least would know about illegal moves.

jimpyramid

what does illegal moves mean.

Boswell99

Just found it on chess.com

Go Learn / Analysis, and you get comments

An illegal move? Moving a Castle diagonally, or a pawn sideways - dozens of illegal moves? Or making a move which leaves the King in check etc.

Actually the practice board has many features.....really useful

jimpyramid

but if your playing someone one here they cant make illegal moves comp stops it

Boswell99

Exactly, but I want to practice a sequence of moves myself, and try and memorise. For example, here's an opening trap by Eric Rosen:

jimpyramid

theres nothing stopping you making any moves to practice if you do it on a chess board

Boswell99

Which returns to my point about having a board which is marked-up with the coordinates - E4, E5 etc.
