I think that it isn't fair when people complain about something that is quite legitimate and therefore their grief doesn't even constitute legitimacy in itself !!
IT'S NOT FAIR!!

IT'S NOT FAIR!!
if someone is determined to win by e.g. using a computer then it renders the use of the site rather meaningless for them! I think if you use the player ratings then you can be reasonably sure of good games - i.e. if you select opponents around your rating. If you are 1500 say and you have an opponant who plays at 1200 but uses 'artificial means' to play at 1500 then you will still have a fairly matched game. If he uses fritz and plays at 2650 then dont play him!
Correspondence chess has always allowed the use of books, the long time allows you to think, and improve your game. Usually, 95% or more of the time, I prefer to play without any kind of help - because I like it, but sometimes I like to use a game as an excuse to learn about an opening - or sometimes it develops into an interesting endgame, and I'll use books to understand the main themes. This is especially so if the moves are not fairly quick in reply, and the position has caught my interest, it seems a natural extension - but use an engine? No that defeats the object. Anyway I prefer OTB, no books, time limits, etc but this site is very good for what it is.
It's no differnet than correspondence chess. However, you shoud apply for membership in the Circle of Trust OTB.
auto-vacation protection for premium members in tournaments that prolong tournaments indefinitely is ridiculous and - IT'S NOT FAIR!
The reason that Chess books and databases and the analysis board are allowed is because there is no way to prevent them. Somehow they can detect chess engines and have thrown people out for using them, and we should be glad for that.
I think it's perfectly fair.
It's not fair!
Make your mind up. Do you think it's fair or do you think
it's not fair!
During turn-based chess play on this site (though NOT during LiveChess play), according to chess.com's rules for playing:
You MAY use books, magazines, or other articles. You may also use computer databases (including Chess.com's Game Explorer)
but if I don't want to but my opponent does - IT'S NOT FAIR!
(p.s. in the interests of fairness, please try to ensure that every submission to this topic ends with the phrase: "It's not fair!")
