List of Leagues at Chess.com

Sort:
Billium248

Ever since the inception of groups here at Chess.com, there have been many different Leagues formed to stimulate inter-group competitions (I believe the World League was the first).  However, I can't find a list of these leagues anywhere, so I thought I would start a thread where all the leagues can advertise themselves in case someone else is interested in joining them, or just following along.

Personally, I LOVE all the league competitions, even if I'm not in one of the groups competing.  I think it's just as much fun to follow along and watch sometimes as it is to play.  So I hope that the various league leaders will use this thread not only to advertise their league's existance, but to announce which teams have advanced or been eliminated as the various seasons progress.

I did a seach in the groups for 'league" and this is what I found.  Some of these leagues are full, well into their respective rounds and not accepting new teams at the moment, and some are brand new and haven't started yet.  Either way, I hope this stimulates interest in all of the inter-group competitions that have been making Chess.com such an enjoyable place to play.

I propose an opening league, for teams that represent a specific opening, any feedback.

Sounds like a good idea, but then how would the 1.e4 group play against the 1.d4 group?

edit - I see you've worked that out and started the league:

http://www.chess.com/groups/view/openings-league

A new group was just formed for league organizers (apparently inspired by this thread):

Since the World League was the first one formed (and by far the largest), it seems only right that the first updates/results posted in this thread be from there.  I have heard a LOT of talk about the World League, but since I was not competing in it, I always wondered how everything was progressing and how well the various countries were doing.  After doing a lot of digging, and reading a lot of threads, here is what I've found:

The teams are:

Group A Group B Group C Group D Group E
England Russia Slovenija Egypt Iraq
Philippines Romania Spain Lithuania Argentina
Italia USA: Southwest Poland Czech Republic Nicaragua
USA: Southeast Portugal Germany Bangladesh Austria
Sweden Iran France Slovakia Lebanon
USA: Northeast Indonesia Belgium Wales Denmark
Greece Holland Croatia Algeria Belarus
Australia Brazil Catalonia Macedonia Uruguay
USA: South Central China Scotland Bulgaria New Zealand
Canada Turkey Armenia Finland Uzbekistan
USA: North Central Ireland Latvia Iceland
India USA: Northwest Mexico Israel
      Thailand
      Albania

The Schedule is:

Number Challenge Lock and Start
Round 1 Mar 13, 2009 Mar 16, 2009
Round 2 Apr 20, 2009 Apr 23, 2009
Round 3 May 14, 2009 May 17, 2009
Round 4 Jun 11, 2009 Jun 15, 2009
Round 5 Jul 9, 2009 Jul 13, 2009
Round 6 Aug 6, 2009 Aug 10, 2009
Round 7 Sep 3, 2009 Sep 7, 2009
Round 8 Oct 1, 2009 Oct 5, 2009
Round 9 Oct 22, 2009 Oct 26, 2009
Round 10 Nov 19, 2009 Nov 23, 2009
Round 11 Dec 17, 2009 Dec 21, 2009

You are missing the County Championship, which is an annual league played between the counties of England. The only main group is the HQ, however, which you wouldn't be able to view.

The Fortnight Speed Vote League has come to the end of its first regular season!

The final standings are:

Teams in red are the leaders in their division (automatically seeded #1-4).

Teams in bold have gone the distance.

Teams in italics have timed out.

As of August 26:

12 points - Team Antarctica (4-0)  (TB:18) (South) (clinched the #1 seed)

12 points - Chess Nuts (4-0)  (TB:18) (West) (clinched the #2 seed)

12 points - Fast Players Group (4-0)  (TB:18) (North) (clinched the #3 seed)

10 points - The Blakenators (3-0-1)  (TB:12.5) (East) (clinched the #4 seed)

9 points - Kairav's Chess Masters (3-1)  (TB:9) (South) (clinched the #5 seed)

9 points - The Power of Chess (3-1)  (TB:9) (West) (clinched the #6 seed)

9 points - The Premier of All (3-1)  (TB:9) (North) (clinched the #7 seed)

7 points - Animal Lovers (2-1-1)  (TB:8) (East) (clinched the #8 seed)

6 points - Narz's People (2-2)  (TB:3) (West) (eliminated from playoffs)

6 points - The Dark Knights (2-2)  (TB:3) (South) (eliminated from playoffs)

6 points - Supreme Pawns (2-2)  (TB:3) (North) (eliminated from playoffs)

6 points - Chess & Cola Club (2-2)  (TB:10) (East) (eliminated from playoffs)

3 points - Chess Unlimited (1-3)  (TB:0) (South) (eliminated from playoffs)

3 points - Rapid Chess (1-3)  (TB:0) (East) (eliminated from playoffs)

3 points - Wizards of Oz (1-3)  (TB:0) (West) (eliminated from playoffs)

3 points - Chess Empire (1-3)  (TB:6) (East) (eliminated from playoffs)

withdrawn - The Best(1-3)  (TB:0) (North)

withdrawn - Chess Team Holland (0-4)  (TB:0) (West)

withdrawn - Team Benelux "de Leeuwen"(0-4)  (TB:0) (South)

withdrawn - Chess Friends for Friends(0-4)  (TB:0) (North)

It is interesting to note that NONE of the teams that made the playoffs timed out of a single game!!  So it's a pretty safe bet that all the games in the playoffs will be going the distance.  The Wizards of Oz are the ONLY team in the league that did NOT timeout of any of their games, AND sadly did not make the playoffs.

There was only one draw in the regular season, which is good because now that we're into the playoffs, THERE CAN BE NO MORE DRAWS!!!  This is elimination time.  There are 8 teams in the Quarter-Finals, 4 teams in the Semi-Finals, and 2 teams in the Finals.  There is no room for a tie!!  Just like the NBA or NHL will play for 3 or 4 overtimes until one team comes out on top, so it must be with us.  The game MUST continue until one team either makes a mistake, resigns, or falls asleep and times out.

The Quarter-Final games can be played anytime between now and September 13th.  The schedule is:

#1 Team Antarctica vs #8 Animal Lovers

#2 Chess Nuts vs #7 The Premier of All

#3 Fast Players Group vs #6 The Power of Chess

#4 The Blakenators vs #5 Kairav's Chess Masters

Good Luck Everybody!!!  Have Fun!!!

Thanks for the catch.  You're right.  I missed that one:

You're also right in that no one can view anything in the group.  Would you care to share with us who the teams are, and how everyone is doing?

Certainly. Now, ideally, all the counties would take part, however, in practice the league can only accept teams who have managed to gather at least five members. Therefore, only 26 of the 39 eligible counties are currently competing.

There are three sections in this league: Open, U1800 and U1500. The sections are all run seperately, and so there is no obligation for the county to play in one or the other.

As for results, the league only just started off on the 1st July, with the Open section in its preliminary round which will give way to divisions in the future, and the U1800 and U1500 in their first cycle. There are not enough results so far to post anything meaningful.

The Fortnight Speed Vote League's Quarter-Finals are over!!

The teams in the Final Four are:

Chess Nuts

Fast Players Group

Kairav's Chess Masters

Animal Lovers

Good Luck to all the remaining teams.  As they say in Highlander, "There can be only one."  Cool

I really wanted to form an American-college-teams league once upon a time, something like a chess.com equivalent of the NCAA.  In fact, I started a group for my school (Penn State) once upon a time for that purpose.  Didn't seem like a lot of interest, though, so nothing really came of it.

mattattack99

I have one for Michigan!

I think we start in 5hrs+ 20 minutes, I am there~

rigamagician

What is the difference between a cup and a league?
