mismatched of opponents

how does the system pick opponents? so I mostly play rapid and my current rating is 160 as a beginner but I feel my like there is a imbalance of opponents sometimes as my last opponent had a rating of 260. I can understand playing a opponent with maybe a 20 point difference but not 100 point difference.
