I hear you! Same problems. Ok, here's what I figured out:
Turn it to landscape: Q brings up the menu, s and l are right and left, r and c are up and down, spacebar is select. Once you've moved your piece, Q will submit move.
In portrait, it's a bit harder: abc is sideways (along a rank) and jkl is up and down (along a file). Spacebar is stil "select." I usually turn it back to landscape and hit Q to make the move.

Also, when you've moved your piece to whatever square you want, hit spacebar, then Q to submit the move.
I have had this problem a lot so here is a quick solution to make this work for you guys.
1. After closing the chess.com application go into the options menu
2. click on advanced options.
3. click applications
4. after the applications load scroll down until you have chess.com highlighted.
5. Click the blackberry button and choose "enable compatibility mode."
6. go back to the chess.com program.
7. In compatibility mode it will always be in portrait mode with the keyboard always showing. key controls:
TY = up
DF = left
BN = down
JK = right
space = select
qw = left menu button
op = right menu button
if you move your finger around the top part of the screen it works as if you were moving around a trackball on a blackberry curve/perl/bold.

mjc - thanks for the tip. I use my keyboard in multitap mode in portrait, so the keys are a bit different. I can't seem to log on in the compatability mode though.
EdIt: I changed to suretype (which I can't seem to get the hang of) but it works very well for chess.com mobile. Thanks again for the info.

I would STILL rather an dedicated app like what they're doing for the iPhone.
Just downloaded the mobile chess offering onto my blackberry storm, is there a list of which keys are needed etc. or does any of it work with touch enabled phones? I am having difficulty getting it to show the menu that seems to be in the lower left corner, not sure if there is a key to press to bring it up.
