hi fellow chess players.

I have recently challenged an old, old family member to play the good old correspondance chess with me. We mail our moves to each other but I really need to put these moves into an eletronic chess board. How do I do this in an easy way...? Does chess.com have this service....? Can´t find it. If not which chess program have this function.

Hey hey Simon

MrKornKid

Your sure old skool eh lol.  Nice to hear people still do this.  I have no clue if there is such a thing.  I have not come accross it yet but it doesn't mean it does not exist.  Well, I'm not helpful lol.  Free bump.

Simon,

considering I'm writing a reply 9 months after the question was asked, I guess you probably found the answer yourself by now. However, in case it might still be useful to you or anybody else who should stumble upon the thread, here's my 3 cents:

It is really worthwhile to have a chess client. The one I use is the program called "BabasChess". It's free. It allows one to connect to a chess server. I'm no expert on chess servers, but one I knew about, and used to play some games on it is FICS (Free Internet Chess Server). Since the experience of playing on Chess.com has been more rewarding to me, I practically gave that one up, but it's an interesting option, especially if you want to play live such chess variants as Fisher Random, Bughouse or Atomic.

However, regardless whether you wish to test out the offer of chess servers or not, an important feature of all chess clients, including BabasChess, is the possibility of importing, exporting, viewing and editing (by making moves and creating alternative variations) of PGN files, which lets you replay/analyse games on a chess board on a screen. This means a chess client can replace your regular chess board for most of your chess activities, including "materialising" a correspondence game.

A crucial feature available in many chess client programs, including BabasChess, is the possibility to coordinate it with a chess engine which is a great aid to any player in reviewing games. There are free chess engines available. BabasChess actually comes with a few of them preinstalled preconfigured, but I managed to couple it to Houdini 1.5 (available free of charge) and use it to analyse all my games that I consider to be of any value; I also search for killing blows which I missed in blitz games where I was certain of having an advantage but was unable to transform it to a win.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

under the more tab at the top, go to Game Editor. This will bring up a board. After the first few moves, start saving the pgn and importing it in when you return.
