"Anyway, I'm pretty sure chess.com isn't alone in only allowing 1 tournament for nonsubs."
All the more reason we should allow it!

So that's two people who have switched to chess.com and not used the other sites for a considerable amount of time because chess.com offers better features. If you find some people who are thinking about leaving the site because they can only play one tournament at a time then fine, otherwise the point is a bit moot...

There are a bunch of guys I've invited who aren't as active as they used to be who I'd like to invite to new tournaments but can't. Even one extra tournament could respark their interest & maybe they'd go premium eventually.
but I think if you give a little, you'll get much more.
I think that's exactly true, but probably in the exact opposite way you do. If you are willing to pay 8 cents a day, you can get tons more features and training tools. Like you said "give a little, get much more"
Yes, but don't forget non-members can get into one official tourney and one non-official tourney at once (or is the 1 tourney limit on official ones only??), which makes 2 tourneys at once!!
I came here from plasticbishop.com. You can play in unlimited tourney's for free there. I was about to pay for a premium membership over there when I found chess.com, which I liked way better, so here I am.

correct!
people make it sound like being a basic member is so bad. but come on - think of how much we offer for free and then think about how cheap it is to signup.
:)
I have to agree with Eric and RyanMK. I think what this site offers for free is amazing. And after all it is a business, the free aspects are there to give you a taste of the site's features in the hope that you will then sign up.
I've been playing as a non-sub since January and I think it would be possible to carry on forever without paying. I'm always involved in more games than I can handle, I have multiple group memberships (all with unlimited chances to play team and vote matches), I'm able to play and direct tournaments and have limited training sessions - what more do you want for free!!
I will definitely be joining this site in the near future, if only to get deeper access to the already great features.
PS - one feature that I think is very clever for non-subs is that you are able to register for another tournament as soon as your last move is made in your previous one! For example I was knocked out of a tournament that started in January very early on, it is now only 47% complete but because I have no further involvement I'm able to register again rather than having to wait it out.

exactly, being a basic member is not bad at all, in fact it is better than the other sites by a long shot. Also, becoming a premium member is not that expensive...
non premium members should be allowed almost nothing. i think one tournament is too much. don't get me started on what you leeches should and should not be allowed. (i'm on one tonight) haha
it's all drama folks. relax.

All members including basic members can play in an unlimited number of official tournaments.

This is a bit of a turn-off for many I think, other sites let you enter unlimited tournies for free. Granted they aren't as good as this site but I think if you give a little, you'll get much more. IMO, non-premeiums should get at least two tournaments at once. Also I think non-premies should get 5 tactics trainer problems per day. I understand it's a fine balance, just thought I'd share my opinion.
