I’ve recently caused my blitz rating to drop ~200 points. The vast majority of my games are five minutes.
A few months ago I was rated ~1260. I enjoyed trying to improve and felt like I was getting better as I watched my rating slowly (very slowly), but steadily, rise.
Now, my rating is well below 1100. Some of this drop can be attributed to playing carelessly on tilt, but I’m not sure what else happened.
I want to say that now I hate chess, but that’s obviously not the case because I’m sitting here typing/venting a message to other chess enthusiasts about my recent struggles. #Love/Hate? It just hurts losing so frequently after feeling like I was getting better.
So, had anyone else experienced this type of drop or have any suggestions on getting out of this slump? Is there there is a huge difference between a 1250 player and 1050 player?
It could be that chess and chess.com have simply exploded in popularity and the competition has gotten more intense.
I was recently struggling in the 1200s but then got back to 1400s now back in mid1300’s. I regularly have 200-300 swing in ratings. I can never work out why as I never think I’m playing any differently. So it doesn’t sound unusual to me
