not improving in tactics

i played for about a year back in 2008 and got better at tactics (for my elo range ~1500) in about a month of practice. I took 4 years off from chess and started playing again recently and I realized how bad I was at tactics (or how worse I've gotten). I have been doing the similar tactics training for around a month now and I havent improved in the slightest and this is frustrating...
Is there anyway for me to fix this problem? ie. what kind of mindset i should have when approaching the tactical positions and such?
