The problem is that people have to start off somewhere. Chess.com at least asks if they are new to chess or are more experienced.
If more advanced players people lie, then they will be mismatched to start. And the people they play will be mismatched.
I would think that those games would be less fun for the more advanced players. But I guess people play chess for different reasons.
And until people get a rating and it settles down, chess.com doesn't know the right level.
I feel good about the ratings of the people I play. I rarely get stomped or face totally overrated players. That is one of the benefits of being a premium member.
So I got a friend, tell him about chess. Apparently you can play without creating and account, which they do. I watch him get absolutely stomped by people who 100% aren't beginners. Like, they are way too good.
Anyway they delete the app and decided they would never touch chess again. So whatever, I know you should create an account to face people on your actual level, but it's still sad to see new people try it out (even as guests) get stomped by a 1500 elo claiming to be 400 elo.
