What does percentile mean in Chess.com? At the moment I am around 1340 and it says that I have a percentile of 81,1%, does it mean I have a better rating than 81,1% of users? I hope so but definitely I don't feel so strong

Also, I'm around 1800 in [another site -- VP] and I have the same percentile, this make the thing even stranger

Most members are casual players. Even in OTB chess, there are a lot of beginner player, or casual tournament players, so it doesn't take a high rating to be in the top 20%.

Ratings across pools are not normally comparable, since different sites have differing starting ratings, but the percentile numbers, in pools of sufficient size, likely have a better correlation.

Thank you very much

does the system consider only active players or all the players in general?

Steven-ODonoghue

That's a good question
