Ping Timer?

This is just a suggestion here but I was wondering whether you guys agree that there should be some kind of ping Timer option in games. By this I mean when you first join a game and your opponent won't move you should be able to press a button that gives the a 5 minute countdown because let's face it choose your first move isn't going to take that long. The same could also go for mid game when people don't move but instead of a timer they have to respond to the ping within a certain time frame or they are kicked. Thoughts?

It wouldn't be necessary for the first move. If no first move is made within 20 seconds, the server aborts the game.

I would agree with something that at least forces someone to click a "Still thinking" button or something when time moves into longer standard time controls.

Ah I didn't know that about the first move it always seems to just wait for them to move. Is it the same if I move first and then they don't make their move with black?

I think a still thinking timer would be good. You can only press it once a certain amount of times time has passed say 3-5 minutes has passed and then there is another 3+ minutes to make a move. Not that I want to rush people but I enjoy playing 30 minute games the most and having to wait like 20 minutes to win if someone knows they're going to lose is annoying.

I have seen similar options on other chess sites and apps but chess.com is a more organised' smooth site with much better opponents and less waiting time for games and a much larger scale site than just your average quick game chess app.

Yes, the automated abort works if either side doesn't move within 20 seconds. (Too many aborts violates the "Fair Play Policy" and your account will get restricted.)

I don't think that the "still thinking?" button is something that chess.com is considering. Many people post here about how annoying it is to have to wait out games where it seems that one side has abandoned the game but they remain connected. No one has found the perfect solution.
