I don't understand the point system for Blitz games. One time I checkmate my opponent in less than 10 moves, and get a "+6" added to my score. Another time I was way behind in the game, but won on time, and received "+11" added to my score. Where are the rules listed, or could someone explain please. I'm a very novice player, and still learning this type of stuff. Thanks!
It doesn't matter if you win in 10 moves by checkmate or if you win on timeout. All that matters is whether you win, lose or draw.
When you are rated 100 points above someone, you are expected to win. And vice versa. There are tables showing the expected results.
If you beat someone one rated 100 points above you, you will get more points than if you beat someone rated 100 points lower than you.
There is also a component that looks at how accurate your rating is. In general, the more you play, the more accurate your rating gets to be. New players by definition start with inaccurate ratings and see much higher ratings swings than established players.
