Pop-under ads

Every now and then when I click a link on chess.com, I get a pop-under ad.  Is anyone else getting this?

For example, I just got one with the following address:

I still get popups for local singles and Samsung 2010 Olympics contest.  Anybody know why this is happening.  I am a platinum member.

this is because you are a non paying member, if you buy a premium membership you will no longer have this problem

How would you know that?

It really is a shame that chess.com have allowed some pop-under ads.  Yes, I am not a premium member, but it's a valid criticism.

well, I'm a non-paying member and I have had absolutely NO ads for a while, pop-under, pop-up, or roll-over. My secret? I'm running Firefox with the Ad-blocker Plus addon. Since I'm non-paying, I still have the 'click here to remove ads' links, but no ads!

I agree with you in spirit, though, I think having pop-under/pop-up ads is a little low, although I have no trouble with the header and footer images, as long as they aren't roll-over ads.

The answer is, "Because you have no premium member icon after your handle."

Well, my question was specifically about pop-under ads (IOW, "How would you know that non-premium members get pop-under ads?"), but anyway I guess the link he posted answers it.  ;D

Anyway, thanks for the link, klhn444.

Agreed.

Every now and then I reinstall AdBlock.  I'll see how I feel.  :)

I have that "chat bar" thing turned off.  I guess this is something else.

Just stop visiting the site.  Thats should solve it.

Feedback is vital for a site like chess.com, whether that feedback is positive or negative.  If nobody ever gave feedback, the site could easily go in the "wrong" direction.

There seems to be a "you mustn't criticise chess.com, especially if you're not a premium member" attitude going on around here, which makes little sense to me.  The slightest criticism is often met with "you're not even a premium member" or "you should stop visiting this site", and it's very counterproductive.
