10 GMS would make a month-long tourney with an insane amount of games but tiring for players. We already see players tired by the 14th round, this would require lots of stamina
Predictions for the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament
Zurich 1953, perhaps the most famous Candidates tournament ever, had a field of 15 and 28 rounds. 2:00/40 time limit

I think they played 2:30/40 time limit.
It is impossible to organise and finance 28 rounds nowadays.

"Should the field be expanded to 10 GMs?"
++ Yes, if possible.
Abasov should not have been there, not his fault, but fault of the selection criteria.
There are several higher rated players that could have been there in his stead.
So yes, going up to 10 players would be good.
8 players means 8 * 7 = 56 games, 14 rounds
10 players means 10 * 9 = 90 games, 18 rounds
That is 4 days longer.
To mitigate fatigue they should shorten the time control to 90|30.
Which 8 Grandmasters will appear in the 2026 Candidates under the new qualification rules?
Should the field be expanded to 10 GMs?
