Requests to chat

Most players can chat with me as I play. If I get a
"[player user name] would like to chat: Accept | Decline"...
is this because they've been censored for some reason?
Or just because it's after the game?
No, nothing to do with you or them. It is a new chess.com feature beta is implementing (confused me when I first encountered it a few days ago too).
Apparently, now if you try typing anything into game chat mid-game (at least for the few times I tried it), chess.com asks if you want to accept or decline this chat. I think it is probably just a weird precaution to prevent in-game chat people don't want or anything trolling/hateful etc. I thought it was fine the way it was where you could disable chat mid-game if you wanted, but I guess chess.com wants to try this or something?
p.s. a chess.com friend of mine messed around with this to experiment. If you click Accept, then chat works as normal. If you click Decline, then chat is disabled for the rest of the game and can't be re-enabled; it resets next game though and typing reactivates chess.com to ask the other player if they would like [username] to chat Accept/Decline.

I think it can be enabled using a setting. I think @Salabros had it when he was talking about after the game. It may have been after the game.
Funny thing is I ignored them, thinking they were going to be childish comments. But both of them were compliments.

I usually miss the "alert" that pops up during play to accept/decline chatting. I appreciate the option to accept or decline (I also appreciate the possible reasoning for this feature); however, the placement of the "request to chat" alert is easy to miss, which essentially removes the the option to accept/decline. What if they altered the way this feature functions so players actually see the request in time? Perhaps it could pop up somewhere a player can't miss it? I worry that an opponent may feel dismissed or ignored.

Yes, it's very easy to miss. And if I by default want to accept all requests I should be allowed to do that for simplicity.

I like the option to accept all requests by default. I miss the chats I used to have, which I now miss. You could always disable chat if someone was a jerk....

I have chats permanently disabled for my games. Chatting is a distraction and players usually have nothing nice to say. Most of the time I will get a "ha ha" emoji if I make a mistake, or the even more annoying "Zzzz" emoji if they think I am taking too long. And isn't it funny that I usually get a chat request when I make a mistake, take a long think for a move or find myself in a losing position. If you agree to play a certain time control you should not act impatient if I want to use all of my time and / or play out a losing game. Many times my opponents have blown a winning position, so it is better not to resign unless I am just tired of playing. And I do not intentionally stall, that is unsportsmanlike, but if I think there is any chance of saving the game I will take my time to try to find it. USCF does not allow talking to your opponent (except for draw offers, illegal moves and comments like "adjust") and I feel the same way about online chess.

I was warned to not accept invitations to chat after a match as there's a high risk of trash talk. I am new to rapid chess and am just finding my bearings here. I don't want to be rude but neither do I want to open the door to it.
What is others' experience on this site?
