But the French do it with a French accent which sounds sooooo much cooler and more sophisticated then American sarcasm. Same for British wit. Packs more of a punch. It takes an exceptionally cool American to sound cool when being sarcastic.
I had a French roommate decades ago. He had a group of French friends in Santa Cruz (near where I lived). I never once heard any of them seem or sound uncool, until my roommate tried to pronounce the name of a very famous oatmeal in America "Quaker Oats".
Phonetically it should sounds like "kwayker oats. But he pronounced it, rather emphatically "quacker hoates". Used to quack me up laughing, which he didn't find particularly amusing.
