Sounds like a serious problem.  How often to run across this?

lol I know this happens to alot of people, it seems to run in familys... I wouldnt worry, about it unless it is screwing up you game lol =) (of course it is...)

There is some positions where taking away for example your own h-pawn allows to activate the rook, getting a much stronger attack. For example in some variations of the dragon sicilian, where white simply plays h4-h5 to pry open the h-file.

It is really usefull to calculate more slowly! It's very important.

Chessmaster voice lady:

(frivolous) "You can only move your own pieces!"

(tongue-in-cheek) "That's not your piece...!"

(slightly annoyed) "You can't move your opponent's pieces...!"

: "incorrect, you cant hit ur own piece"

lol I had it happen to me in a tactic puzzle just now! I checkmated myself!!! lol

sometimes, I'd like to be able to capture my own piece, that way a pesky pawn doesn't get in the way of a material gain or checkmate.
