Solution to Live Chess Timeouts

Just a moment ago, I was playing some blitz over in live chess. Two consecutive opponents suddenly "disconnected" and made me sit and wait. This happens all the time.

Various solutions have been discussed here, such as sportsmanship ratings, which I think are a good idea.

But here is a new, easy to implement solution... What if, from now on, losses by abandonment, or by timeout where more than a certain percentage of the total clock went by on the last move, cost the loser double ratings points?

This way, the winner's rating doesn't get skewed. But the unsportsmanlike loser gets hit double. If the keep it up, eventually, nobody will play them, as their rating will be in triple digits.

What do you think?

I think "deal with it", has never been surpassed, Flamma_Aquila, but I have a rather North Korean attitude about itLaughing

Maybe we should have a seperate rating for how often one finishes games as opposed to abandoning them or timing out (with more than X percent of time used on the last move).

Sure. But it is funny how often it seems to happen right after I kill a hanging piece or break through the position.

And actually, that may not be a great thing for everyone. I have cruddy internet where I live. Outages are commonplace now. So if they have an outage while I am playing a live chess game, I lose on time.
