Thank you very much for your answering me,

although a percentile 97% seems too high for my capability.

For example, I 've got an ELO over the +1 SD at FICS (1760, hmean:1380, hSD:270), which stands more normal -I believe, although it is a provisional ELO.

Thus, I cannot explain such a big difference between Chess.com and FICS (or other sites)

friendly,

Nicos Mavrommatis

If the Chess.com mean is μ = 1181 and my percentile p(x) = 0.973 (97.3% when the rating is 1763), then the Standard Deviation in Chess.com is (now) σ = 300.5. Using these numbers you can compare your ranking (and rating) with other chess sites, in order to know their μ and σ too.

Surprisingly, the results are not the same...

I think Fics have rd filter that sort out non active players from the stats, Chess.com count all players. Correct me if I am wrong.

The truth is that I didn't know there is such an option at Fics. In that case, the matter depends on what you want to know: your ranking in the totality of players (the sample at Chess.com is huge!) or your ranking in a specific set of players? (at Fics the sample is small but the players strong)

Good day again,

My Glicko in Live Standard is 1720. Is it possible to inform me about my percentile

or the Standard Deviation there, please?

thank you

One simple solution is to buy a premium membership.

Eniamar

It's two different populations. All you can reasonably infer from the statistics is that you're slightly over 2 standard deviations stronger than the average chess.com live chess player.

Your strength against the FICS population is going to be different, and it's not all that unreasonable for you to be closer to the mean over there. It's not like we're talking about something absurd like 7 or 8 SDs, it's only the difference between slightly over 1, and somewhere between 2 and 3, respectively.

In any case, your standard percentile is 98.6% with an RD of 167. This is so large as to make any statistical analysis inherently wrong.

If one looks at the different means and percentiles based on the bullet, blitz, and long time control pools across just chess.com you'll see that your ~1700 rating in standard is not really the same level of skill as a 1700 bullet player in particular. There are only ~367,000 players with a standard rating compared to just under 600,000 at the blitz speed, and 220,000 for bullet.

Looking at the distributions of all three different modes, they're obviously skewed rather badly to the right, and I think a lot of that has to do with the number of people who show up, lose a few games, and leave. Also, there are some members of the community who take a perverse pride in maintaining the lowest possible rating.

Thank you very much for the information,

I am wondering if a FIDE ELO is closer to the FICS rating "spirit" (or maybe that of Infinia's or Kurnik's etc.) rather than that in Chess.com. Which in your experience is closer? (if, of course, it is possible to make such a comparison...)

You can use these commands on Fics for compare the rating pools.
