For some reason this has not received as much press as it should, but in 2006 a lost treatise that may have chess problems by Leonardo Da Vinci himself was discovered. Luca Pacioli was a close friend of Da Vinci and was the author of "De Ludo Scacchorum", which is Latin for "On The Game Of Chess". It is believed by many that Leonardo was the artist for the chess problems or at the very least drew the pictures of the chess pieces. Considering that Da Vinci lived in the 15th century and there was little theory but he was one of the greatest geniuses ever makes one wonder what his chess game was like.
