Is there any way you can set it up where tournaments that are limited by rating automatically boot anyone above the rating when it starts?

I am currently playing in a tournament entitled "Under 1400!"

The founder of the tournament has a rating of 1700+ (which he got because his average opponent is only rated 1400, and his best win is 1500), and a couple of others are well above the rating limit.

The whole point of playing in those tourneys is not to be trounced by people above my level, and have fun playing a competative tournament among beginners.

Can we fix this?

Previously players were automatically dropped. It had a major impact on small tournaments.

Enter tournaments where the games completed restriction is much higher than the default 10. Ratings may be more stable. Unfortunately tournament directors do not normally divulge this setting.

You can create tournaments, with a higher games completed restriction, and be the one to remove players prior to the start.

 and by unfair do you mean extremely fair...  i agree with the original poster.  if you're over the maximum rating then you should not be allowed to play.  period.  one of my biggest peeves about this site.
