Tactics rating way higher than playing

Anyone else have a 1900 Tactics rating but only a 900 Bullet?  What does that mean, that I'm slow?  (I'm 1300 in Blitz).  Or is it that lower rated players don't bother with the faster games?

elefantenvogel

Probably both. Typically the tactics ratings are higher anyway that other ratings, but in your case the difference is quite high. Regard bullet, you have to be a pretty good player to not completely stink in this variant, and most weaker player are sufficiently self-aware of this issue. I have a tactics rating of 2000, and I wouldn't touch bullet with a barge-pole. If you want to measure your speed less subjectively, try puzzle rush!

Once somebody said that bullet chess is not actually chess. If you have a high rating on tactis try to play classic games. You will notice how your tactis training will have an impact happy.png

Yes. Similar spread. 1750+ tactics to 1300s 10m blitz. The way tactics are set up, you can steadily increase your score as high as you like if you take whatever time you need to solve each puzzle correctly. Your rating could easily be several hundred points higher than your live rating if you take more time per move in practice than you do in live chess.

Agree with all posts above

Tactics is just one aspect of chess, amongst others like opening, middlegame and endgame strategies, positional play, time management, 'resigning' management etc.

A playing rating of within 750 (that's my own personal estimate) points for any time control below the tactics rating is normal. A lot of the people whom I have played with. One such player, who is one of my local club friends, has around 500 to 600 points rating difference (2400+ tactiics vs 1900+ for rapid, 1800+ for blitz and 1700+ for bullet).

Bullet chess really requires great skill in terms of time management, and you will need to spot tactics in a fairly short amount of time. Remember that being able to do tactics puzzles does not always equate to executing your own tactics or preventing opponent's tactics all the time (wrote the person who always blunders queens, rooks, knights, bishops and even kings).

Wasn't trolling, was more so joking. I forget that not everyone has a sense of humor, my bad.

Tactics rating doesn't say anything about your skill as a player, its about solving a specific position where you know for a fact that there is a tactic there. This is far from playing actual games.

Some have ridiculous looking tactics ratings of over 10.000

Does that mean they can outwit someone like Carlsen? No.

One of those guys explained the reason, he used memory!

It is chess.com problem with limited puzzle pool, only 65,000 puzzles.

The tips to reach 5000+ rating is

1. First you need 2500+ puzzle rating! (real skill)

2. Pass the first 10 puzzles of  2000-3000 puzzles with fast guess! (If you fail, reset the rating)

3. Once you get 3000+, puzzles , there would probably be 2000+ puzzles only.

4. Memorize those 3000+ puzzles

I would be very surprised if those guys get 2500+ in other sites!

My tactics rating here is 1400+ but my blitz rating is 900ish. Maybe, because I don't look for tactics that can be used by my opponet!

Do you know how to make tea? Some people make tea, some people drink tea. Make your tea...try to play tactics in a real game such as pin, skewer, overloaded, clearance, desperado, discover check, fork,in between move etc... according to the position demand..if there is no tactic, make a quiet move to improve your position. Anyway, don't brag about tactics, challenge me in daily chess, im always available,no rejection.. even though Im only a patzergrin.png

Tactics rating has nothing to do with your chess playing abilities. It just means that you are good at solving puzzles. Does it mean that you can take good decisions that convert into a win under time constraints? No.
