My opponent has just made a mistake in entering his move in online chess. Is there any way to allow him to take back a move?

Seriously??????Takebacks?????

GnosticMoron

Only if you create the game as a Takeback game when the challenge is first offered.

If it isn't a takeback game, and if you feel generous, you can always just move back to the position you were in prior to the blunder assuming no material has since been lost.

You'll never win a game by being nice.

He intended Qb5 but dropped it on the wrong square. A slip of the mouse, not a strategic mistake.

Guess I take it and owe the universe one, until it happens to me.

Yes, "Submit Move" is your friend. I didn't use it at first because I found it vaguely distasteful.

But there's no "oops" button. So now I use it consistently.

Tell your opponent to enable the "SUBMIT MOVE" option, so the move must be confirmed after being made. That prevents errors. Too late in this case though!

Well, it's good but not 100% idiot-proof. Once I made my move and hit the submit button so fast that I didn't realize I had placed a piece on the wrong square before it was too late.
