The point of points

What is the point of points?  I get points everytime I post a comment to a thread or post a new topic.  What is the point of points?  Are they used for anything?  Are they used for some type of ranking or just a number to brag to my friends about?

HEY, I have 300 chess.com and you don't!  Nana-nana boo-boo...

Thanks.

Some people think it makes them feel important--too many ridiculous posts to keep track of. Also people seem to think the more "points" the more serious they are about chess and about chess.com both of which are ridiculous.

Loomis

One of the posters with nearly the most points (if not far and away the most) is also one of the most useless posters in the forums. So, I'd say take any meaning out of the points that you want.

The points is just a measure of member activity within the Chess.com community. The points are not worth anything. It is just an interesting statistic.

100% agree with Loomis.  This poster will feel compelled to post something in this thread as well.

They should just change the name to "number of thread posts".
