Well here's a list of the time controls available..
Why are there different ratings in live chess
Live Chess has three different ratings based on different time controls:
- Bullet rating - For games under 3 minutes.
- Blitz rating - For games of 3 minutes to 14 minutes.
- Rapid rating - For games 15 minutes and longer.
We keep these rating separate because of the largely different skills involved in playing shorter or longer games.
Note that the per-move bonus time is significant - not just the base minutes.
The system assumes an average game-length of 40 moves to estimate the total length of time available to each player; the result is what determines which rating is affected by a given time control:
A time control of 2 | 12 therefore results in a Blitz (not Bullet) game like so:
2 minutes + (12 seconds x 40 moves = 480 seconds) = 10 minutes
As a reference, here are some examples of presets available in Live:
Time Control | Estimated Length | Game/rating type |
5 | 0 | 5 minutes | Blitz |
10 | 0 | 10 minutes | Blitz |
2 | 12 | 10 minutes | Blitz |
3 | 0 | 3 minutes | Blitz |
4 | 4 | 6.5 minutes | Blitz |
15 | 10 | 22 minutes | Rapid |
1 | 5 | 4.5 minutes | Blitz |
1 | 0 | 1 minute | Bullet |
Hello,
I have played only two games here. 10 minutes ones. First game I got beaten by a better player and was not far from check mate when time limit was near. Other game was worse, I got laughed that I did not see I could capture enemy's queen by my knight and the other player quit.
I am used to see a 3D chessboard and overlook things even more in 2D.
1) How game time limit works? I am not a good player without a time limit but with a time limit I was stressed that I played much much worse than usual.
2) Is it possible to play and enjoy online chess here when I am tired and cannot think well? Usually I play offline Windows chess at low difficulty to relax. That has an advantage I can take a break anytime and even take back some move from time to time.
Thanks for answer.
