trojan horse virus.

Did you click on (or even mouse over) any ads?
As far as I know (and I work in IT) you cannot get a trojan without somehow initiating the download yourself... by clicking on an ad, for instance.
There seems to be no way (AFAIK) that it could have come from your opponents's computer... you do not get connected to his computer, only to the chess.com server... unless he sent you a chat message containing a hyperlink (and you unwisely clicked on it).
How sure are you that it didn't come from some other site?
Where was it found? In your temporary internet files folder?

Nice work Emu. I thought you scared him off, but he's a 60 yr old guy. He probably had the virus before the game started.

Check my comment in the Off Topic / "Most annoying co-worker" thread.
Thereby hangs a tale...
If your system are affected with Trojan virus then you should remove it manually.
Restart the infected PC in safe mode.
perform a system restore to delete Xiorist Ransomware.
Open task manager and disable all the malicious processes running there.
Uninstall all infectious programs from control panel.
Open Registry editor and delete all the corrupt registry entries
If you are still facing problem then visit this informational site: [removed link -- VP]

Thanks, that's very helpful!

Don't worry. A Trojan virus can be removed easily if you use a specialized tool like Plumbytes Anti-Malware to remove it. If you don't want to use a tool, just try the system restore. This article will show you the detailed steps to remove a Trojan virus by performing the system restore: [link removed, please don't advertise -- VP]

I hate to break your bubble but that's not gonna work. If you have a virus, you have a virus.
Nonsense, viruses can be easily removed with the right software/technique.
(I have no knowledge of the products being endorsed on this Thread, but can help if anyone needs it)

System Restore can be effective in the right circumstances, but there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution.

Macer; I wouldn't be so quick to take Alexa's advice in post #9. He says, "Open task manager and disable all the malicious processes running there.
Uninstall all infectious programs from control pane". I'm assuming you know the difference between programs & processes that you need to run the computer, and the programs & processes that you deleted.

Agreed, that sort of advice is highly dangerous.

Right away?... You mean we've been working hard to help you, to save you, to pray for your computer since Aug 2014??
Well; you haven't heard the last of this!!

LOL, well Ronald I had no idea anyone was "helping" me since I never read this until I posted.
I did appreciate the helping posts.
