We've made some fixes and improvements to the theme editor! You can now change more things (including the links at the very top and very bottom of the page).

Try it here: http://www.chess.com/home/themes.html

Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks for your patience support!

Erik. I tried renewing my theme after the original came unstuck during the recent upgrade and find that I prefer this one to the old version. Unfortunately because of the background I chose, I was unable to read the white links at top and bottom. (They were lost in the flames.) So the ability to change the colour of those links is a big plus.

Now my only problem has been fitting my devil lady into her new Inferno. She sits between the border and the main panel and the trick has been to get her into position without losing her behind one or the other. She's fairly comfortable now and can actually rest her back against to side of the screen, so she's not likely to complain.

Thanks for the upgrade. It does everything I could ask. If there was to be another improvement it might be to preview the changes in another tab or window rather than the present setup which requires us to click "Save Changes" to see how the new theme worked out.

Cheers

When I try to "sort by: Author", I don't see anything but a ton of code. I can post or send it to you if need be. I am using a MacBook Pro v. 10.5.8

The sorting bug is fixed.

The first part of Paul's question is easy. From the drop-down menu on "My Home" select "Account" then select "Styles and Themes".

The rest of it is harder because not everybody comes to a site from the same background and some will find it more difficult to navigate than others.

A couple of years ago I was teaching a creative writing class for a group of senior cits, all of whom had some difficulty with computing concepts that most of us take for granted. At the Christmas break I sent them all a personalised on-line e-card and of 18 intelligent people not one of them recognised the link that they had to click. When I sent them emails with the links clearly indicated they all got their cards.

I love this site and have never had a problem with the navigation, but we don't all come from the same background ... so maybe Paul's query is one that a lot of other people might also have raised, though I'm not sure how that could be addressed. Perhaps his idea about a site map could solve the problem.

If you scroll all the way down:

:)

However, I agree, with as many features as there are on this site, its not always the easiest thing to lay them out so that everyone has no problems finding what they want to find. What would be best is to give SPECIFIC examples of what you consistently have a hard time finding (like you've done with vacation removal) and we can address that specific issue. I agree that if you are on a game and you're on vacation, there should be some sort of quick, "return from vacation link". thanks

THEREFORE...I was showing you that we DO have a "sitemap" and you can find it at the very bottom of this page, where it says "Site Map"

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Relax Paul :)
